German Officials Say Iran Forging Ahead with Nuclear Program
Security officials in Germany told Berlin daily Der Tagesspiegel this week that Iran has continued efforts to acquire “material from [German] firms for its nuclear program and the construction of missiles” despite the JCPOA nuclear agreement. “Iran has [according to the security sources] clearly not given up its long-term goal to become an nuclear power that can mount nuclear weapons on rockets,” the report said, adding that although President Hassan Rouhani has urged caution, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps “want to continue the nuclear program at all costs.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a dire statement Wednesday threatening to “shred” the JCPOA if the US withdraws from it, as US President Donald Trump has strongly hinted he wants to do.

“Judging Iran by the narrow confines of the nuclear deal misses the true nature of the threat," U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said during a Security Council debate on Wednesday. "Iran must be judged in totality of its aggressive, destabilizing, and unlawful behavior. To do otherwise would be foolish."

Rivlin Address Concludes Christian Media Summit
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin gave the keynote address Wednesday evening at the final day of the Christian Media Summit organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “I am a son of Jerusalem; the son of a son of Jerusalem; the son of a son of a son... a seventh generation Jerusalemite,” Rivlin began. “We are seeing the words of the prophets of Israel come true before our eyes,” he declared, adding that the population of Israel is nearly 9 million, including almost 7 million Jews. “It’s a fact. We have returned,” he said.

Israel Blesses the World
Researchers at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan announced this week that they’ve pinpointed an enzyme which causes cancer cells to metastasize, as well as synthetic compounds to block it. Clinical trials of the new treatment are tentatively scheduled to begin in 18 months. In related news, Tel Aviv University and Weizmann Institute of Science researchers this week published details of a process they’ve developed to grow healthy skin cells in mice from the cells of other organs.

“The applications of this are unlimited – from transplants, which would eliminate long waiting lists and eliminate the common problem of immune system rejection of ‘foreign’ organs; to maybe one day curing deafness (...) the possibilities are really beyond the scope of the imagination,” said Prof. Carmit Levy of the TAU Sackler School of Medicine.
